The Coffee: A small producer lot of heirloom varietals, this offering is a certified organic grade 1 Ethiopian coffee, roasted on the light side of medium. A balance of flavors are the overarching theme here. Grade 1 coffees of Ethiopia tend to be a big hit of one note with touches of others, but not so much with this one. We note milk chocolate, lavender and berries & cream. The body of the cup is medium in weight and soft in texture while finishing smooth with moderate acidity. Great drip, lower temp pour over and rested properly, a great espresso too.
The Producer: This community lot comes from the kebele (village) of Benti Nenka in Guji, Ethiopia. Here the local community of 700 producing households cultivate heirloom varietals native to this region. These are family run plots, each consisting of an average of only 150 trees. These are subsistence level farmers, who only produce one to two 60 kg bags of exportable coffee.
