One Year In – Reflecting on the Journey at Fogline Coffee

A Year of Growth, Grit, and Great Coffee

One year ago, we opened the doors to Fogline Coffee in the heart of Arcata, California, not entirely sure what to expect—but full of heart, hope, and a love for coffee. Today, we’re reflecting on what has been a whirlwind of challenges, lessons, and meaningful moments with our community.

The Humble Beginnings

Starting a micro-roastery in Humboldt County’s unique coastal climate came with its fair share of surprises. From navigating the humidity’s impact on roasting to learning how to fine-tune our equipment, every step was a learning experience. But it was also a reminder of why we started: to create something personal and grounded, something built on quality and connection.

Rooted in Relationships

From day one, our vision has been simple—source responsibly, roast with intention, and share coffee that tells a story. We’ve had the privilege of working with small, family-run farms and sustainable importers whose values align with our own. Every bean we roast carries a journey—of people, places, and purpose—and we’re honored to be a part of that chain.

The Arcata Community

One of the most rewarding parts of our first year has been the community that’s formed around Fogline. Whether it’s a familiar face at the shop each morning, or someone trying pour-over for the first time, these moments are what make it all worth it. We’re not just here to serve coffee—we’re here to create a space where people can connect, unwind, and feel at home.

Looking Ahead

We’ve learned a lot, and we still have plenty of growing to do. But as we look ahead, we’re more committed than ever to our craft and our community. Thank you to everyone who’s supported us this past year—whether you’ve stopped in for a cappuccino, bought a bag online, or simply shared a kind word, you’ve helped shape this dream.

Here’s to year two—more beans, more brews, and more beautiful moments.

With gratitude,
The Fogline Coffee Family
